Yesterday wrapped up my thirty days of gratitude project. A “grateful journal”, if you will.

This has been an interesting and reflective exercise. And although my exercise of gratitude is over, I hope to keep things to be grateful for in my focus every day.

I drove past a church yesterday that challenged me with the question:

What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you had given thanks for today?

This list of things to be thankful for only skims the surface. But I would be a pretty happy person if I woke up with only these things left. At a glance here they are — the thirty things I am grateful for this past month.

If you haven’t yet really contemplated the things to be grateful for in your own life, I encourage you to give it a try. And, in doing so, I am hoping we can all concentrate more on the good things going on all around us!

“Lucky to have been where I have been…”  (lyrics from a pretty sappy song “Lucky” by Jason Mraz, but none the less, applicable).   I’m so thankful that I’ve traveled a fair amount and been able to experience some cultures outside of the US.  It has made me appreciative of what we have… but also respectful of a different lifestyle.  Something that I believe I could never get from a textbook.

We have so many wonderful memories of our travels.  Pictures in our mind, and pictures for real.  Experiences that we will continue to add on to as we go along.

Everyone has their favorite.  Spain, Italy, Portugal — I have a hard time narrowing it from there.

Need I say more? Dylan has changed our lives for the better and we couldn’t image being without him. Who knew?

Corgi love.  Can’t get enough of them.  Check out my favorite Corgi blogs if you feel the same way:

I’m not sure how she’d feel about this picture, but I am so thankful for my big sister. Although we live very different and far apart lives, she is an inspiration to me. And she is carrying the responsibility of looking out for our Mom, which I will never be able to repay her for.

The sun. Well, more particularly, the weather. One of the reasons we chose Arkansas for our new home was the hope of milder winters and less snow. Knock on wood, but so far we have enjoyed an amazing fall and are buoyed by the bright skies and frequent sunshine!

This photo was taken along the bike trail between Bentonville and Bella Vista.  The Razorback Greenway project is connecting bike trails throughout the area — a huge bonus for living in NWA!

#2 – Being so comfortably settled in to a cozy house and friendly neighborhood. Trying to streamline our living spaces, downsize our decor and envision a new retirement lifestyle wasn’t particularly easy, but we love how we feel when we are in our home.

Check out The Inspired Room blog if you haven’t already…  it was, well, inspiring to me  as I was looking for new ideas for our rooms!

One of the things that I am grateful for this year is being reconnected with my former college roommate. She was a lot of fun back then, and is still constantly dabbling in all kinds of interesting things. It is because of her that I’ve decided to post thirty days of gratitude. I borrowed the idea from her – originally intended to be one “gratitude” for each day of November. I may be a little late getting started, but I will use Thanksgiving as the launch of my thirty days.

So, in no particular order, here begins thirty things that I am giving thanks for this year.

Thanks, Debbie, for being such a good friend in college and for continuing to inspire me!
